The Trouble With Trash

Things have been awfully quiet around here following my last Free Giveaway and while it's creeping closer to Halloween, it was never my intention for this place to resemble a morgue. Unfortunately, the lack of updates is partially, mostly, due to my moving in just a few days. The process of cataloging and boxing up several years worth of trash has proved to be a most daunting task. One, I'm afraid to admit, that is kicking my ass.

What you see above is a majority of my comic book collection.

Yeah, that's all just comics and it doesn't include the two thousand issues that I purged and sold/traded off in the last couple weeks. Also not shown are two very large Rubbermaid bins full of more comics that were never sorted from my last move, which occurred nearly eight years ago.

Nevermind all the collectibles, books, toys, DVDs/VHS and miscellaneous junk that has managed to find its way into my possession since moving back to Massachusetts.

To say that I'm feeling overwhelmed by the things that I supposedly "own" is an understatement. The free time that I've had between packing and work has been devoted to shutting down my brain and marathon-watching bad sitcoms on Netflix. The very idea that I'm going to have to physically transport all these things from here to my new home is killing me right now.

This is sounding an awful lot like sad excuses, and that's probably because I hate the fact that I haven't posted anything or contributed to The League of Extraordinary Bloggers in a couple weeks. It's doubly troubling because I really felt like I was hitting a nice groove here on the blog, maybe sorta' finding my voice and discovering a small audience of awesome readers. It means a lot that you all, that anyone, take time from your day to check out my little corner of the internet and I'm certainly not showing any love by being M.I.A.

Eh, here's hoping that I'll make another appearance in the near future. Maybe I'll have even have content that's worth taking a look at.

    1. It means a lot that everyone is so cool and understanding; not that I was expecting them not to be, but it's still nice.

And while I may be too busy to blog/comment as frequently as I'd like to, I'm still keeping up with everyone else. Lurking like the creep I can sometimes be.

      Murky lurking.

  2. I sold all my comics in 2003. Ughhh....Oh well. Live and learn. Wish I still had some back.

    1. It's a total concern that I'll someday regret purging books from my comic collection. But it was the first time I've ever sold or traded any issues, so I was very serious when it came to choosing what stayed and what went.

I probably could have afforded to let a few more books go, though.

  3. We all hit rough/dry patches while blogging, for all different reasons. Don't let it stress you out. Come back to the blog when you can, however you can. Get yourself moving to your new place. You'll still have readers. You'll still have a voice.

    1. All I ever seem to do these days is stress.stress.stress.

Ideally, once I get back into posting here, I'm hoping to worry less about whether or not people are gonna -love- my stuff and just focus on the things I -love- and feel passionate about.

Prepare for a lot of Gremlins 2: The New Batch-related posts.

  4. I echo the statements from everyone else. Lord knows I come and go from the League. Life happens and sometimes there are other things that have to be done first. Come back when you can.

Man, I am in the same boat with organizing. I have figures, sports cards, bobbleheads, autographs, action figures and comics that need to be put in some order. Good luck with your organizing.

    1. Thanks, Mike.

It's been a definite challenge, but it's also helped me to reevaluate where my "collection" is and where I want it to be. I think we all need some time to redirect our energies and find a focus, especially when in the habit of acquiring more and more stuff.

  5. Hey, no worries man! Moving sucks, especially when you have large piles of awesome trash! I went a whole year without posting once, just because I got lazy! We're all rooting for ya and I'm here to stay. Tackle that move and post when you can.

Until then, I'm gonna read through your archives. Peace out!

    1. Thank you, Mason. I appreciate the kind words and hope that you're finding some decent reads while scouring the archives. There's not much now, but I'm hoping someday that the blog is flush with fresh content.

  6. Yeah. It happens to the best. You just get done what needs done... the internet isn't going anywhere.

If you're short on time, but would like a small fix, pop in to the forum (at RD) and chew the fat with us.

    1. I've been slacking big-time when it comes to catching up with Retro-Daze. One of my top priorities when I'm finally settled into the new place [and have internet back! scary!] is to hunker down and get active over there.
