The "One Man's Trash..." Anniversary Giveaway

It seems to be a recent San Diego Comic Con tradition that I don't even humor the idea of attending, and instead, I turn my attention to this blog in the attempt to lighten my load. Giving away so much stuff, all the odd little collectibles that have been piling up over the days and weeks and years. The idea that you can never have enough toys or comics or DVDs, well, it's a great one, but it's totally false. Limited space to store it all, limited time to enjoy those things, sometimes you exceed those limits and find yourself wondering how things got so bad. So yes, it's time to lighten my load.

That's good news for all of you, because it means that we're hosting the latest "One Man's Trash..." Free Giveaway. And this one is the big one. Celebrating a year of blogging, and a year of giving away my trash to other people. Some of you have been here before, but there may be a handful of new readers lurking that don't know the score. Let's quickly rehash the rules, shall we?

You don't have to follow the blog, but I'd definitely appreciate it if you did. There hasn't been a whole lot of content lately, but I'm hoping for that to change in the very near future. We're getting into my favorite time of year, already anticipating the leaves turning orange and rust, cooler nights and the howl of wolves in the distance, but maybe they're closer than you think. I'm totally getting off track, but the idea that Halloween is drawing near will do that to you.

So, anyway, there are two ways to enter this month's giveaway-- you can leave a comment below, something breezy and light, maybe having to do with your favorite episode of The Golden Girls or the time you rented Killer Instinct for the SNES and didn't return it for three weeks. The other way to enter is to send an email to itstrashculture[at]gmail.com. Simple enough, sure, and completing either of those things is all you need to do to maybe, possibly, win a box full of things. Incredible things, even though I never hesitate to refer to it all as trash.

Deathlok Wants to Live at Your House: The Results!

Hey, I'm a day late on posting this.

That's par for the course around these parts, so apologies to any newcomers that were expecting me to be prompt. It rarely happens because I'm the worst. Except when I'm the best and giving away free stuff like comics and junk. You get used to it, I guess.

Right so, thank you to all for taking the time to check out the blog, and for leaving comments and entering the contest. Basically, everything that you do and for everything that you are. It turns out that I can't be the best after all, because you beat me to that top spot. You're the best.

And because you're all top of the heap, a-number-one, king of the hill, I've got a little special something for each and every one of you.

Comics for everybody..!

I did mention before that I buy a lot of comics. So many, remember? And since I've got more than enough already, and am buying more all the time, well it only makes sense to part with more than a handful. That means that everyone that entered into the contest is gonna end up receiving a small assortment of back-issues. Floppies for all, I say.

Deathlok Wants to Live at Your House

I buy a lot of comic books.

Like, so many of them.

Sometimes this means that I end up with duplicates; issues I had forgotten I'd read before purchased for a second [or even third!] time. Part of my attempt to avoid becoming a comic-related hoarder has been stuffing random floppies into the free giveaways and consolation prizes from previous contests.

Yeah, you might have noticed that there haven't been a whole lot of giveaways/contests lately. I mean, really, there hasn't been a whole lot of content here on the blog these last couple months, so it only makes sense that the freebies would have fallen by the wayside, too. Next month marks the one-year anniversary of my first "One Man's Trash..." Free Giveaway, though, so I'm gearing up for a Godzilla-sized contest to commemorate and celebrate the occasion.

For now, I've decided to run a little comic-related giveaway to hold you all over until then.

If you follow me over on Twitter [@itstrashculture] or Instagram [also, @itstrashculture], you've probably noticed that I've been splurging quite a bit on books from my local comic shop's dollar-bins. I've found tons of ridiculously great issues to add to my collection; the type of stuff that I plan to hold onto forever and ever.

But there's the occasional books that I have no real use for that prove to be too good a deal to pass on.

Like the Captain America: Deathlok Lives trade paperback that you see above.

Published by Marvel in 1993, it collects issues #286, 287 and 288 from the original Captain America series. The three-part story arc finds The Star-Spangled Avenger flung into the far-future and teaming-up with the first incarnation of Deathlok, Luther Manning. It's an awesome little tale that I'd recommend to any fans of Cap [or Deathlok!], and I'm giving someone a chance to win this very copy.

Oh, and I'll definitely be throwing a few more random floppies in the "prize-pack", as if you needed any more incentive to take part in the giveaway.

The "New Year, New Trash" Free Giveaway Results

Yes, I'm late.

I promised to have the results in last night, so a quick apology to any and all of you who were wondering who won the latest giveaway. I'd make some excuses, but they'd be farfetched and ridiculous, and we'd all be better off imagining that I got caught up watching The Golden Girls re-runs, because that's probably closer to the truth. We can handle the truth, because it's just kinda' sad.

Thanks to some random Random Number Generator site, a winner has been determined. Big congrats to Erick from Wonderful Wonderblog, who joins the ranks of the freaks who have taken home their very own Trash Packs. The "New Year, New Trash" Free Giveaway

We're three whole weeks into 2014. I'm sure that some resolutions have already been forgotten, tossed aside like so much trash, but there's one thing that we will never forget. Not ever, not in a million years, not even if Will Smith used one of those blink-y, flashy things from Men in Black on us--

Sometimes I give away FREE STUFF.

It's been awhile, I know, but there were holidays and gifts to send out to friends and loved ones. There were priorities and things and stuff happening! Then I sorta' felt bad, because I realized that you, all of you, are my friends, too. My nearest and dearest neglected and ignored. Thank goodness that a New Year brings with it new opportunities to unload my junk on other people, right?

For those fresh-faced fans out there, pure and virgin as newly fallen snow, for those that haven't been here long, I offer some reassurance. If you win. When you win. When you win, I won't be sending you old newspapers or crumpled candy wrappers or half-eaten sandwiches. It is almost a guarantee that, if you've stumbled upon this blog and have decided to stick around, there will be some goodies in the prize-pack that you'll enjoy. The "Trash 'r Treat" Free Giveaway Results

I'm running a few hours later than promised, but here I am with the results of the latest Free Giveaway. I should be sprinkling this announcement with all sorts of cliched Halloween puns like The Cryptkeeper or some other animatronic puppet who hosted their own horror-anthology program and also terrified me when I was a child. Sad to say that instead this will be brief, so brief, due to my spending time with real live people like someone normal might. Being social doesn't suit me, I think.

The "Trash 'r Treat" Free Giveaway

We're nearly halfway through October and there hasn't been a whole lot of celebratin' the season of the witch here at the ole' Trash Pile. Besides watching the occasional "scary movie" and chowing down on Halloween-themed Oreo cookies, I've been slacking when it comes to everything spooky. Even with all this neglect, that doesn't mean that the blog's monthly contest was gonna sneak by without a horrifying twist. Gone is the usual "One Man's Trash" giveaway, replaced with spiders and skeletons and all those things that go bump in the night.

Welcome, boils and ghouls, to the first annual "Trash 'r Treat" Free Giveaway.

I'm beyond excited for this one. The prizes that will lurk within have been piling up the last couple months. A morbid mix of creepy candy, freaky films and the all the odds and ends fit to be buried with.

Of course, because this is different from my usual monthly giveaways, the rules are slightly different. It's still easy enough to enter, but with a little twist-- I'm asking everyone who wants a shot at winning to leave a comment, something related to Halloween; whether it's a cherished memory of the holiday or a favorite candy or a horror flick you can't go without watching every year.

The Third "One Man's Trash..." Free Giveaway Results

As promised, I'm back with the results from my latest Free Giveaway contest. I know, I'm like nearly an hour later than I had originally stated, but believe me when I tell you that serious business kept me away those extra sixty minutes. I totally wasn't wasting time eating junk food and watching episodes of Parks & Recreation on Netflix. That doesn't sound like me at all.

The "One Man's Trash..." Free Giveaway, Round Three: Fight!

Something in here reeks of nostalgia and I think I may know what it is...

Yup, it's time for this month's Free Giveaway contest. If it seems like this one is a little earlier than the last couple, well, a brief explanation! I've mentioned before that I'm moving soon and the date seems to be creeping closer and closer with each passing moment. With so much still left to do, my free-time is dwindling. This sorta' explains the lack of real updates and also why I'm running this sooner than I normally would.

But who cares, right?

We're all here for the free trash and I don't want to bore you with details. Except the rules to enter...

Things have been awfully quiet here at the ol' blog recently. With a big move creeping closer and closer, there's been less time to hunt down and talk about trash. That doesn't mean I've forgotten about the place or the promises of sharing junk with each and every one of you.

The "One Man's Trash..." Free Giveaway Part II: The Trash-eninging

Exactly one month ago, I hosted this blog's very first [but definitely not last] Free Giveaway contest. With little to no fanfare, I'm now announcing the second. This is your chance, my dear readers and loyal lurkers, to win a box full of random junk. It's an odd mixture of beloved vintage goodies and the latest in useless collectibles that is guaranteed to transform you from a 97-pound weakling into a 97-pound weakling that now owns more trash. Great trash! Mystery trash!

The "One Man's Trash..." Free Giveaway

I acquire a lot of stuff. What with the constant trips to thrift shops, flea markets and second-hand stores. With an interest in most things geeky and strange. With my occasional bouts of poor impulse control. I own way more than I need and with a potential move on the horizon, that sorta' needs to change. Naturally, my loss is someone's gain. Pictured above is a mailing box, measuring 14x10x5.5, and it is loaded up with stuff: comic books and DVDs, outdated party supplies and children's books. Oh, and lots of small toys and collectibles.
